This actually is the recipe my Mom made for me as a kid.  However I got it in a roundabout method.  Mom had lost the recipe over the years, but remembered she had given it to her friend Betty.  However Betty had lost it, but had given it to her son Victor.  So Victor passed it down the line and I finally have it! Thanks Vic!

Gather the following:

Cookie Pan

2 Mixing bowls

bullet

Microwave Safe Cup with 1/3 cup water.

1 package Chocolate Chips.  (Even better, sub in some dark European chocolate.)

1 Cup Shortening or Butter.

bullet

3/4 Cup Brown Sugar

bullet

1/4 Cup White Sugar

bullet

1 teaspoon Vanilla

bullet

1 1/2 Cup Flour

bullet

1 Teaspoon Salt

bullet

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

bullet

1/3 Cup Boiling Water

bullet

2 Cups Rolled Oats (Oatmeal)

1/2 Cup Nuts.

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. In the mixing bowl, combine

    bullet

    1 Cup Shortening or Butter.

    bullet

    3/4 Cup Brown Sugar

    bullet

    1/4 Cup White Sugar

    bullet

    1 teaspoon Vanilla

     

  3. Sift together

    bullet

    1 1/2 Cup Flour

    bullet

    1 Teaspoon Salt

     

  4. Combine the two mixes.

  5. Boil 1/3 cup water in microwave and add 1 teaspoon baking soda to it.

  6. Mix boiling water and previous mix

  7. Add:

    2 Cups Rolled Oats (Oatmeal)

    bullet

    1/2 Cup Nuts. (I prefer 1 full cup walnuts)

     

  8. Mix it all together.

  9. Form little balls of the dough, place on cookie pan and flatten slightly.

  10. Bake at 350 for about 10 or 11 minutes..

  11. Start eating as soon as they are cool enough not to burn you!
